Since I have been battling a cold the last few weeks, I am a bit behind in the holiday decor department. Last weekend, I did manage to decorate my front porch. My youngest son is a Boy Scout and for a fundraiser, he sold fresh Christmas greens. They arrived on Saturday, so I was obliged to get them displayed.
My theme is The Grinch. I just love the bright red and Grinch green on my porch. The feather wreaths remind me of Grinch fur and I have a Grinch and Max doll sitting on my porch ready to greet guests. I hang oversized plastic ornaments from ribbon high above my alcove.
The bench is decorated VERY simply. I just wrap a few yards of polka dot fabric around my existing bench cushion and I made a cover for the pillow that normally sits on my bench. The back is draped with a green blanket and the JOY pillow is a new purchase from Target. For the bolster pillow, it is no-sew as well. I just wrap a yard of fabric around some bunched up fabric and the ends are tied with ribbon.
I have some sparkly picks in my existing flowers in an urn by the front door. I really want to get a pink or white poinsettia to go in it.
I love the look and smell of the fresh cedar. It is draped around my front door and along the banisters.
I also tuck some tree trimmings in some hanging glass cloches and adorn with colorful ribbon.
How do you decorate your front porch to welcome your holiday guests?
Donna...I love it!! We're going to take our stuff down from the attic today. Andres is so excited!

THIS IS TOO CUTE!!! I love it! And I'm really jealous I don't get to come home to that everyday :)

ReplyDeleteHi!!! I LOVE the Grinch....I have the cartoon movie and the Jim Cary movie AND a great sweatshirt I used to wear when I worked in the pub. school setting. The kids loved it...I still do! I am crazy about your front porch! I know all about that boy scout garland! My son buys it from his best buddy who has a little troop (he's a single guy who volunteered to be a leader cuz they needed one!) The first year they lived in their home, I "taught" my son and DIL how to put lights in it and swag it around on their front porch. :) I have enough to do to decorate my OWN house! ;)
ReplyDeleteI just looked at some of your recent posts, too! You have been so busy, Donna! I've been busy, but haven't posted about it. :) I'll be glad when I finish my decorating and can take a little breather and post and visit!
I JUST fetched our mail and was so thrilled to find the wonderful item from YOU! You are so "on top of things"...I want you to know how very special that item is to me --- you are one swell chick!
I hope you get to feeling better very soon!
l, Dana
So funny you ask... instead of the typical wreath this year, at my home we have found a beautiful candy cane shaped wreath that I am going to do some serious adorning thanks to your visual inspiration. Your porch is amazing and I'm sure the crowning jewel of your neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me...this is amazing!!! I love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou need to have a Blogger show and tell party!!!!! Wouldn't that be fun?!?!?!
Ooops, I'm a little behind, but this is gorgeous, Donna! LOVE the colors and the Whimsy....in fact it would go perfectly with MY home's decor! ;D
ReplyDeleteVery festive! Thanks for the bird name suggestions. I think my 6 year old has named them Bob and Ruby! No reason, just likes the names!
ReplyDeleteHey! I LOVE your candy canes! I can't seem to find any like these, where did you get them at?
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find the pink and red candy canes...love them!!!!
ReplyDeleteI bought the candy canes wholesale from Midwest Canon Falls. I think they have been discontinued and I am very sad since mine broke last year!
ReplyDeleteI love the feather wreaths. Did you make these or buy them somewhere? Either way can you give lots more details (if made, how did you do it, size of wreaths, feathers/boas, etc)
ReplyDeleteThanks....
The feather wreaths are from angelwreaths.com and they are the apple ones.
