New Generation of Janeites

While working in the library with Chasen's 5th grade class, I was helping Lauren find a book. Lauren and her mother borrowed my 6 hour Pride & Prejudice DVDs this summer and really enjoyed them. So I suggested to Lauren to get a book by Charles Dickens, conveying that it was similar to Jane Austen ( a period piece). A girl on the other side of the bookcase said "Who's Jane Austen?" Music to my ears! I proceeded to tell her the story of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. She squealed with delight and said "Oooo, I want to see that movie!" Again, more music to my ears! So I told the girls ( a few more joined the conversation) that I would be happy to screen the movie for them.
So Friday night, I hosted a private screening for the girls on our big screen in the backyard. I made chocolate chip scones, clotted cream and served raspberry lemonade in my 100 year old teacups. We also had a fire and fixin's for s'mores. Chasen was so cute. He served the girls lemonade and made the popcorn. He even "dressed up"; wearing a dress shirt and nice pants. He even set up their chairs and blankets for them. My little gentleman! Unfortunately, I couldn't get any pictures of the girls because it was too dark. :(

I told the girls a little background of the movie and they really seemed to enjoy it. Kinzie and I were talking in our best English accents. She was so cute!

I can't wait to show another screening of a Jane Austen movie to a new generation of Janeites!

Forget the kids! I want to come see the movie outside with you! How fun! That sounds like it would be right up my alley! Well, a girl can dream can't she?

Hugs,
Joanne
